I received the monitor in fine condition within 3 days of ordering using the Super Saver shipping option – great job Amazon. Set-up of the monitor took all of 15 minutes and consisted of the following: opening the box, snapping on the base, attaching the included power, speaker, and VGA cables and powering on the monitor which I did with Windows XP running. Windows recognized the new hardware immediately and I had a viewable image. This monitor is truly “Plug-n-Play” capable. In my case configuring the monitor consisted simply of going to Control Panel > Display Properties > Settings and setting the screen resolution to 1920×1080. I clicked “apply” and that was that. I am amazed at how much screen size and display quality makes a difference to the user experience. I replaced a 15″ CRT with this unit and I am pleasantly surprised at how much better I feel sitting in front of the computer. It is akin to moving to a larger desk. You just have so much more room to work. Although the monitor includes a set-up CD for configuring the monitor which includes various display settings for different user environments (for instance there is special setting to optimize the monitor’s performance in a work environment with fluorescent lighting among others) I found the factory default setting to be ideal for my purposes. Should you need to make adjustments the controls necessary to do so are exactly where they should be — front and center. The small adjustment buttons are clearly marked, and along with the on-board display settings adjustment software I find it reassuring that should the need arise to make adjustments it should be easy to do so. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the built-in speakers. While some reviewers have expressed dissatisfaction regarding their sound quality I have found them to be more than adequate for the average user. As a former PC and network technician for a large financial services company, this monitor would be ideal for a work environment in which multi-media capabilities were required. The sound quality is sufficient for most purposes but does fall short of the expectations of audiophiles or those accustomed to 2.1 or 5.1 dedicated multi-media speaker systems. They are great to have if you need them and allow for an un-cluttered desk space without the need for the room required to accommodate a dedicated speaker set-up. In short this monitor is a great value considering the features and price. The fact that it’s backed up by a quality company with a reputation of solid customer service makes it that much better. So if a thin-bezel, matte finish, built-in speakers, 22″ HD capable monitor, backed by a solid company, with a 3-year warranty is what you are seeking then you have found it.

My husband bought this for me because it’s supposed to be one of the best screens on the market, as far as quality and color goes (he did a lot of research). This is true. It’s great on the eyes, and if you spend a lot of time writing papers or working on documents, the squarish (i.e. not wide screen) size of the screen is great, because you see a lot of your page. You can also adjust the height really well, and the screen is quite compact, so it does not take up much space on a desk. I can’t comment on technicalities, but as an amateur user, this works very well. One star off for a dead pixel which appeared three weeks after delivery. This is not really a problem for me, as I can’t see it most of the time, but should be mentioned.

I haven’t had this monitor for long, maybe a month, but so far so good. It always takes me a long time before I decide just what model of something I will buy. I chose this one based on size (not too big but bigger than my 15-inch, since my desk area is small); the claims that it is energy-efficient; how it looks; the fact that the speakers are built in (I don’t listen to my music via the computer so don’t need great speakers); and of course, lower price. I don’t have any major complaints with it, but there is one odd thing that I would not think would be related to a new monitor: it takes a long time for my screen to appear after I turn it on. It also seems that my pages run much slower since I hooked up this monitor. It could be completely unrelated and just a coincidence. But I do wish the screen lit up quicker. Maybe that’s where the energy efficiency comes in! No matter, I am happy with it other than that, and if it saves energy and money on my electric bill, I’ll accept the slow startup.

I bought this monitor to use initially with an older desktop running Windows XP and later to use as an extra monitor for a laptop. The pluses are a sleek design and exceptional high resolution display, particularly when set at the recommended 1680 x 1050 resolution.
Installation was a bit more problematic. I’m not a novice, but neither am I a tech guru, however, I can follow reasonable instructions. For this Plug and Play monitor, the instructions are minimal and the illustrations practically non-existent. I managed eventually to hook up all components, but when using the installation disk I discovered a missing (or outdated) Installshield msi file. Viewsonic Support was no help at all, so I finally Googled a fix and downloaded a file I hoped would work. It did, and the rest of the installation was smooth.
The monitor has built-in speakers. While not loud enough for a stand-alone operation, they work very well with my existing Boston Acoustics and sub-woofer.
I would definitely recommend this monitor for a quality picture at a bargain basement price.

Got this View Sonic as a Father’s Day gift. The wide screen offers an entirely new experience.
However, beware that according to the manufacturer, the optimal screen resolution is 1440×900. My pc is about 8 years old and I can’t achieve that high a resolution (without, I’m told, investing in a new graphics card).
The resolution I currently have the monitor set at is okay, but the text appears furry or fuzzy. Since mostly what I do is read/write, this is bothersome.

After 7 years since my last ViewSonic, they were not even on my radar until I saw the most recent reviews at Consumer Reports. They rated this unit in second place (20-24″ LCD) behind the 0 Apple 24″ Cinema Display. As beautiful as that LED screen is, I just couldn’t cough up the $$$ for a second display to my 13″ MacBook Pro. I use this on my desktop for applications that demand more real estate such as video editing and casual gaming. Plugged the monitor in using a cheap 3rd party MiniDisplayPort to DVI dongle and the MBP detected the display and set to correct resolution automatically. I did have to calibrate the display in Snow Leopard using the advanced options to get the best color and gamut settings but now it looks quite good. Checked for dead pixels and sub-pixels using an LCD tester and found no issues. The speakers sound as good, if not slightly better, than the speakers on the MBP but I use a 2.1 Altec Lansing system as my primary desktop speakers. The only gripes are the flimsy stand and the obnoxiously bright blue LED power light on the front.

I was intitially disappointed with this montitor. Out of the box it set up easily but the screen appeared washed out and not very crisp. I am comparing it to a 5 year old Sony of the same type that was 1024×768 resolution. My reason for replaceing the Sony is that it had no way to hook a monitor arm on the back, thus the upgrade to this model that does. The Sony was very crisp and sharp with a good contrast ratio. This monitor at the 1024×768 resolution was horribly, faded and blurry even after all my attempts to adjust it and downloading the latest software. Thus, I did have to set it to the higher 1280×1024 to get crispness, but now I have to adjust all of the font sizes and DPI settings in Windows so I can see it, since at the higer resolution, the fonts are smaller. Perhaps it is this way with all of the monitors of this size but I still love my old Sony. I am sure for most people, this will be a great choice, but I do not use it for games or videos, it is for internet, email and work related things such as Word and Excel. I tried a widescreen prior to this and did not like the non-square format. The controls on the front take a few minutes to get used to, but once you do, they are not that bad.
